About Me

Debra

It was my grandma who first got me started. As a young girl, I was fascinated to observe her swiftly and expertly create a swatch of delicate lace in the style of a table doily or dresser cover, before she handed me my first crochet hook and some very fine yarn.

She had a treadle sewing machine, too, that I remember her using often. Perhaps that’s what sparked my own interest in dressmaking: a hobby that enabled me to create affordable versions of the clothes I’d see in magazines when I was just starting out in my career and couldn’t afford designer prices.

Many years later, taking some time out for myself following some health challenges and the pressures of a small business start-up, I rediscovered the joy of crochet as a soothing and creative practice with great therapeutic value.

And then came the wonderful news that a little person was expected within our extended family, which gave my hobby a greater focus.

So here we are. I love designing and creating garments and blankets for babies & young children. I relish the opportunity to experiment with different colours, different types of yarn and different construction techniques. And love that baby items are reasonably quick to complete (I’m not sure I’d have the patience to create something in a grown-up size!)

Our Shared Passion

Whether we’re donating to hospitals or charities, making for friends, family or loved ones, or selling via craft fairs and Etsy, so many of us are driven by that same sense of joy and personal satisfaction we derive from this wildly popular craft.

Personally I love the relaxation, challenge, and accomplishment that come from designing and making. That’s already reward enough. What makes it even more fulfilling is seeing our granddaughter wearing and enjoying things I’ve made for her.

Though I first learned as a child it was only when I returned to crochet myself as an adult that I really got the bug and began to understand why it’s so addictive! And how so many of us come to acquire a yarn stash that seems to grow in size more often than shrink.

Sharing my Learnings

I’m learning and developing my skills all the time, and use this blog as a way of sharing my progress. If you have any comments or questions about anything I’ve posted here, please get in touch. I’ll be delighted to hear from you.

Thank you for visiting and happy crafting!
